IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové: Numbers That Will Surprise YouThe IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon is a true challenge for everyone. But what does this demanding race look like in numbers? We bring you some fascinating facts to give you a better picture of what athletes experience during the half-distance IRONMAN — and what they’ll go through again this August.

The swimming segment takes place in the Elbe River, where athletes complete approximately 2,500 strokes, each propelling them about 75 cm forward. In summer, the water temperature ranges between 18–22 °C. Last year, so many athletes participated in the Hradec Králové race that together they swam a distance equal to crossing the English Channel 62 times!

According to participants, the cycling segment was impressively fast. The route runs through the surroundings of Hradec Králové and the Orlické Foothills, passing through nearly 20 villages. On average, athletes spend around 3 hours on the bike, making between 22,000 and 25,000 pedal strokes. Last year’s winner, Leo Arnold, covered the 90 km course in under two hours! With an average speed of 32 km/h, athletes move faster than a city bus during rush hour.

Half-marathon to finish it off! The run takes athletes through the city center and along the scenic banks of the Elbe. Over the 21.1 km run, an athlete makes roughly 22,000 steps. To put it in perspective, this is equivalent to crossing the Trubač Footbridge in Hradec Králové about 458 times! During the run, the body can burn up to 1,500 calories — the same as three large hamburgers.

Over the entire race, the average athlete burns around 5,000 calories, which equals eating 20 jelly-filled donuts or two whole pizzas! On the course, each participant typically drinks between 5–7 liters of fluids. Energy gels are also an essential part of every athlete’s gear — if each athlete consumed just one Carbosnack by Nutrend, over 50 kg would be used in total.

IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové is not just about sport — it’s about endurance, determination, and mental strength. So, what do you think — are you in? The fourth wave of race slot sales is now open!
