Hradec Králové is once again gearing up for an unforgettable sporting event. This August, the city will host the IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové triathlon race, aiming to build on the success of last year’s premiere and attract visitors from around the globe to Eastern Bohemia.
The prestigious IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon is returning to Hradec Králové. The East Bohemian capital will host the race on Sunday, August 17, with a rich side program taking place throughout the weekend in the city center.
The IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové has a significant positive impact on the city and surrounding region. It notably boosts local services, especially accommodations, restaurants, and cafés. Last year, the event gave a strong boost to the local economy. Hotels are bursting at the seams and fully booked, which is clear proof of the massive interest in this event. The official event hotels are Hotel Aldis and Hotel Tereziánský dvůr.
A total of 2,800 athletes will participate in various races over the weekend. The main IRONMAN 70.3, with 1,500 individual competitors registered, is nearly sold out. For the shorter IRONMAN 5150 triathlon series, only a few spots remain out of the 500 available. All 50 slots for the three-member relays are already sold out. The PHO3NIX IRONKIDS race will see 250 young athletes at the starting line, and the accompanying City Lights Run has also attracted 400 runners.
This year, the organizers will focus on showcasing local businesses, aiming to provide participants with a well-deserved treat and relaxation in the Finisher Zone located on Eliščino nábřeží. Athletes from 60 countries will be able to enjoy local specialties, such as homemade pasta from the Aquarium restaurant, beef goulash from the local farm Naše hospodářství, sourdough bread from the bakery V mouce (certified as a Regional Food), or traditional pastries from Hradecká pekárna. This connection with regional producers will be further highlighted by Saturday’s farmers’ market under the common theme: Healthy Lifestyle.
IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové is about much more than just the races. A wide-ranging side program is prepared not only for athletes and their companions, but especially for the public and spectators from Hradec Králové and the surrounding area. Visitors can look forward to a rich program full of entertainment, music, sports activities, and market stalls that will transform the city into a vibrant hub of sport and community life. On Saturday, the Day on the Elbe event will offer a variety of activities and attractions for the whole family. Throughout both days, the Food Truck Fest and Family Zone will be located right next to the race course on Smetana Embankment — the heart of the action — where visitors can experience the unforgettable atmosphere firsthand.
