Hradec Králové, April 15, 2025 – The prestigious triathlon race IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové was ceremonially awarded the Annual Award of the City of Hradec Králové in the sports category for 2024 on April 9, 2025. This award is a recognition of the extraordinary success and positive impact of the premiere year of this sporting event on the city, the region and the entire Czech Republic.
Winning this significant award confirms that bringing the IRONMAN brand to Hradec Králové was the right step. The race, which took place in August 2024, attracted thousands of athletes and visitors from dozens of countries around the world, but also presented Hradec Králové as a city capable of hosting world-class events.
“When I came up with the idea of bringing one of the most prestigious sports brands, IRONMAN, to Hradec Králové in 2022, I was met with a mixture of enormous enthusiasm, but perhaps even greater distrust and concerns. We have completed the first year, which brought our city, region and the Czech Republic indisputable popularity and promotion around the world. Hradec Králové has become one of 180 selected places on the planet where this great event takes place,” said race director Roman Šinkovský.
The premiere year of IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové was not an ordinary sports event, but also brought measurable economic benefits. It is estimated that visitors to the event spent approximately 46 million crowns in local services. However, according to Šinkovský, the most important legacy of the event is the mark left in the form of enthusiasm, motivation and, above all, pride of the residents in their city. “Hradec embraced the multinational community and the atmosphere of the world event and enjoyed it to the fullest,” added Šinkovský.
In his acceptance speech, the race director highlighted the key support of the city of Hradec Králové, without which the event would not have been possible. He also thanked all the organizers, hundreds of volunteers, officials and external entities for their hard work and dedication. Recognition also went to the athletes themselves: “Your determination, perseverance and willpower are admirable. Today is proof that the only limits are in our minds, and that when hard work and passion for sport are combined, nothing is impossible.”
The success of the first year and the fresh awards are a huge motivation for the organizers! The IRONMAN 70.3 Hradec Králové team is already fine-tuning the details of the second year, mark your calendars for August 17, 2025, when Hradec Králové will once again be alive with triathlon.
